The deadline for applications for many of our competitions has been extended to 12 April 2026. Please make sure you submit your form as soon as possible as our ice bookings depend upon the amount of entries we receive. Links to the forms can be found in an earlier post if you scroll down, or on our competitions/leagues page.

Two teams from Stirling travelled to Stranraer to compete in the National Gateway Challenge and one returned with the trophy! From left to right, the team are, Liam Morton (Lead),  Jack Brickell (2nd), Mark Dainter (3rd), Derek Wallace (Skip).

The following is a report from Mark Dainter:

Over the course of two days, twelve teams from Stirling, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Fife, Kinross, Dundee, Forfar, and Inverness played in three pools of four on the Saturday, with the winners and runners up going through to the knockout stages on the Sunday.
Both Stirling teams played extremely well on Saturday, although sadly drawn in the same pool but both reached the knockout stage. 
Team Wallace (Stirling 1) won every game in their pool after a tight 6-3 win over Team Moray (Stirling 2) in their first game, Team Moray taking exactly the same number of stones from Team Wallace as every other team in the competition put together. After that, wins over Kinross and Edinburgh1, put Team Wallace into the High Road Knockout stages, with a Semi Final game against close rivals Glasgow Gateway.
Notably Team Moray finished second in their pool but sadly due to the organisers choice of a draw competition at the end of day one, ended up in the Low Road. Kinross, who only won one game in the same pool, survived an early exit from the competition because of their draw shot result.
Team Moray, Joanne Norris, Shuki Rose, Claire Fotheringham and Emma Dolmaire unfortunately lost to Kinross in the Low Road Semi Final, in a tight 4-3 game, having beaten them the day before 7-1. Then went on to beat Fife A 9-4 in the third and fourth place play, while Kinross went on to win the Low Road. The other High Road Semi final was played between Edinburgh2 and Forfar with Edinburgh Progressing to the final to play Stirling’s Team Wallace after an extra end.

The final completed a clean sweep for Team Wallace with a 6-1 win over the Edinburgh team. Team Wallace won every game they played and only gave up 4 ends in 5 games over the entire weekend. With Team Moray only beaten by Team Wallace and Kinross they also scored well in every game.

The whole event showed that Stirling is way ahead of other rinks around Scotland. The coaching at the Peak is by far the best in Scotland, so hats off to them for teaching us so well and thank you SCG for your support.

Our annual Points competition was well attended last week with a wide range of curlers taking part. The winners for each category are:

LADIES: Joint first on 25 pts each, Diana Cheyne and Caroline Davidson

SENIORS: First place Billy Johnston 32 pts. Second place Derek Young 27pts

NEW CURLERS: Winner Derek Wallace 19 pts and second place Shizuko Rose 13 pts

JUNIORS: Winner Isla Kay 35 pts; second Ben Lamb 32p pts; third Aaron Bauer 29 pts;

OPEN: Winner Brian Ferguson 46 pts and a close second place Alan Lee 45 pts

Recently we’ve had a number of incidents where hands or knees left on the ice have caused small pits and soft spots. They might not look like much, but they affect how stones run and create extra work for our ice team.

We’d really appreciate everyone’s help by:
• Avoiding resting hands, knees or elbows directly on the ice
• Standing up as soon as you safely can if you slip or fall, unless you have a head or other serious injury
• Using your brush or stabiliser for support where possible

We know accidents happen – this isn’t about telling anyone off, just a friendly reminder so we can all enjoy the best possible playing surface.

Congratulations to Team Christie on winning the Anna Smith League. They finished level on points with Gargunnock but had two more ends so clinched the title on the last game. After two six-end games amongst the six teams, Strathendrick Ladies emerged as the winners on Wednesday 5 November. All the games were closely fought, with Lenzie Ladies finishing in second place. Thanks to everyone taking part and to Lenzie (especially Moira Foreman) for organising the competition. The results are as follows:

Due to ongoing works at the Peak, the start of the 2025/26 curling season has been delayed by one week. The ice rink for curling is now scheduled to open on **Monday 22 September**.

Clubs with bookings during the week beginning 15 September will be contacted directly by Active Stirling regarding rearrangements or refunds.

For Stirling Curling Group events, this unfortunately means the **Doune Rosebowl has been cancelled**. Clubs entered will be contacted about carrying bookings and payments forward to the Winnock Shield, our closing bonspiel or offered a refund. Division 2 and 3 Peak League matches due on 16 September will be rescheduled, and clubs involved will receive details shortly.

We appreciate this delay will cause disruption to clubs and players, and we thank everyone for their patience and understanding. Further updates will be shared here and by email to clubs/teams as required.
