Stirling were drawn in the East qualifying section alongside Edinburgh, Kinross, Forfar and Borders ice rinks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Competitors will at all times abide by the current&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.scottishcurling.org\/comps\/rules-and-regulations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Rules of the Game<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><tbody><tr><td>In the event of a team being incomplete that game shall be forfeited and the other two games shall proceed; see R11 (j): Failure to Appear.<br>All Section games shall be 8 ends or the bell, and the Section winners and runners-up shall play in the final stages before the end of March in each year.\u00a0 All games on the Final day shall be played over 8 ends.\u00a0 Should one of the qualifiers be unable to play then the next available will take their place.<br>The method of scoring for each individual game shall be: 2 points shall be awarded for a win; 1 point shall be awarded for a draw; 0 points shall be awarded for a loss.\u00a0 Where Ice Rinks are equal on points after the Section Games the result between the equal Ice Rinks shall determine the qualifier.\u00a0 Where more than two Ice Rinks are equal for a qualifying place overall shots up shall determine the qualifier.<\/td><td><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"700\" height=\"933\" class=\"wp-image-901\" style=\"width: 700px;\" src=\"https:\/\/stirlingcurlinggroup.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/FullSizeRender-1-scaled.jpeg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stirlingcurlinggroup.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/FullSizeRender-1-scaled.jpeg 1920w, https:\/\/stirlingcurlinggroup.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/FullSizeRender-1-225x300.jpeg 225w, https:\/\/stirlingcurlinggroup.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/FullSizeRender-1-768x1024.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/stirlingcurlinggroup.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/FullSizeRender-1-1152x1536.jpeg 1152w, https:\/\/stirlingcurlinggroup.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/FullSizeRender-1-1536x2048.jpeg 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-latest-posts__list wp-block-latest-posts\"><li><a class=\"wp-block-latest-posts__post-title\" href=\"https:\/\/stirlingcurlinggroup.org\/index.php\/2023\/03\/08\/stirling-win-maxwell-trophy\/\">Stirling win Maxwell Trophy<\/a><div class=\"wp-block-latest-posts__post-full-content\"><!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Twelve players travelled to Ayr on Tue 7<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0March to compete in the Maxwell Trophy Finals having qualified from the East group stage, alongside Kinross, over the course of the 2022\/23 season.\u00a0<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:table -->\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><tbody><tr><td>Stirling 1<\/td><td>Stirling 2<\/td><td>Stirling 3<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Lee McCleary<\/td><td>Brian Ferguson<\/td><td>John Davie<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Gavin Fleming<\/td><td>Neil Murray<\/td><td>Mark Watt<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>James Dunn<\/td><td>Rory McNair<\/td><td>David McEwan<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Stuart Brand\u00a0<\/td><td>Dougie Telfer\u00a0<\/td><td>Les Goodfellow<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n<!-- \/wp:table -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Stirling were drawn against Greenacres Ice Rink in the semi-final, while Kinross faced Lanarkshire.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>The Greenacres side were strong favourites to retain the Maxwell Trophy for the third year in a row and raced to an early lead in all three games versus Stirling.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Stirling2 were ultimately defeated, however a late score of 4-shots by Stirling3 in the 7<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0end levelled the match and John Davie\u2019s team went on to steal a victory in the 8<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0end. Meanwhile Stirling1 also needed to steal in the last; one shot down without last stone advantage. They piled on the pressure to lie game with several stones guarded in the rings, the Greenacres skip jammed his double take-out attempt giving Stirling the 2-shots they needed and an overall 2-1 win and place in the final against Lanarkshire.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>\u00a0In the final Stirling1 dominated their Hamilton based opposition with a heavy victory.\u00a0 Stirling3 however could not repeat the heroics of the semi final and were ultimately well beaten by a veteran Lanarkshire team. It all came down to Stirling2 to decide the Maxwell Trophy. One shot down in the last end Stirling had last stone advantage.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>With his final rock Brian Ferguson faced a half guarded Lanarkshire counter. The other two teams were eventually edged out over the eight ends.
