Stirling Curling Group

This season Stirling entered Scottish Curling’s Maxwell Trophy for the first time in over 10 years. The Maxwell is a men’s competition between ice rinks where three teams line up for home and away fixtures. Stirling were drawn in the East qualifying section alongside Edinburgh, Kinross, Forfar and Borders ice rinks.

Stirling had a good start versus Edinburgh in Murrayfield with wins for teams led by both Brian Ferguson and Lee McCleary. Kinross then visited The Peak and came out on top with John Davie’s team claiming the only Stirling victory. A week later Forfar visited us with a strong young squad who were dominant. Stirling’s only point came again from John Davie’s team who recorded a draw. Finally Stirling travelled to Borders rink in Kelso knowing three wins from three were required to qualify. Despite having led in all three games it wasn’t to be and Stirling returned home with just a single victory coming from McCleary’s team. Borders and Forfar qualified for the finals in Murrayfield which were ultimately won by the West’s Greenacres Curling Club.

All players who represented Stirling very much enjoyed the experience and hope to compete again next year.
